Flying Home
We had such a great time in the UAE this time… probably even better than the first time we went… but it’s always good to come home.
Our life in words and pictures.

We had such a great time in the UAE this time… probably even better than the first time we went… but it’s always good to come home.
We left Al Ain for the last time today (at least on this trip) and headed to Dubai to hang out at the Mall of the Emirates and then catch our flight home. It was very sad to leave, but it was a great, great trip and we know we may be back one day. Though going without Ryan, Colleen, Henry and Ole there wouldn’t be the same at all, and we’re thankful they’ll be “home” this summer too.
Henry loved being out on the porch with us. Actually, he loved being out on the porch with himself too. He would sing and talk and make faces and watch himself eat in the reflection of the doors. Then he’d climb all over Celeste and haver her sing to him… again… all while stealing glimpses of himself in the reflection. Ahhh… good times!
We went to Al Jimi mall again and had coffee at both Dunkin Donuts and the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. We will miss the malls for sure.
There’s a lot we’ll miss about the UAE, but here’s one thing we’re going to miss a lot… big airbrushed images of Sheikh Zayed on people’s cars. I say that to be funny… but really, who can blame them for loving the guy so much?! He gave them homes, health care, and hope in a generation! That’s amazing!! If I were Emirate I would have a big poster of him on my car too!
I got to do something that only one other visitor has gotten to do with Ryan… go see him teach at the university. It was really great, the students were really very nice, and I got to speak to them a bit (a very little bit) before class and use some Arabic. It was interesting to be there and hear the things they have problems with in learning English. Knowing some Arabic now, and how the language works, those thing didn’t surprise me.
Molly took Celeste out to get henna on her legs tonight. It turned out so very cool!
When we met Salaama last week she invited us to come back and have lunch with her… so we did that today. It was great! It was a traditional rice and fish meal with an amazing salad! Of course we did the dates, tea, coffee and perfumes again as well. What a great experience! Thanks Salaama!
