Terminator 4 Set

Yesterday after we dropped Wendy off at the airport (pictures of her trip coming soon) we drove by the Q Studios where they’re currently filming Terminator 4.

We asked about getting on the lot, and while they were really nice they didn’t let us on.  Very secure set they said.  And they verified that it was T4 being filmed.  However, we did get some pretty cool pictures of some “apocalyptic cars” that they had outside of the confines of the studio gates.

This area had apparently just recently been filmed as the “Special Event Ahead” and “flag man” signs were still up on the road before we got to them… not that the road would’ve had much traffic at all since it’s out in the middle of no-where.  The cars were painted to look rusted and old and had tumbleweeds strategically placed around them.  So we had to jump out and grab a few pictures.

hulu.com - TV & Movies

Hulu.com

If you’ve not yet heard of hulu.com, don’t worry, neither had I. However, while flipping through Entertainment Weekly at Barnes and Noble yesterday I stumbled upon it… and am now in love.

It seems that the TV networks, and their subsidiary corporations that make movies, have finally realized the internet is not a threat. In fact, since ABC has been airing its shows after they have aired on TV they (the corporations) have realized that, “It appears to not be cannibalizing regular, linear television because most consumers who are watching are saying they’re catching up.

We could’ve told you THAT!!!

I’m sort of amazed at what all is on there already. Great shows like The Office, Arrested Development and Battlestar Galactica… quite a few recent movies… and old stuff like Buck Rogers (not to mention the original BSG.)

Arranged

Arranged - A film by Stefan C. Schaefer

We watched a great movie called Arranged. It’s centers on the friendship between an Orthodox Jewish woman and a Muslim woman who meet as first-year teachers at a public school in Brooklyn. They find out each other has an arranged marriage and become friends because of that. It’s one of those movies that was just so much better than I would’ve thought it was going to be… and we thought it was going to be good!

The principal of the school the girls teach in is so perfectly portrayed by Marcia Jean Kurtz, a character actress that’s appeared on a lot of things from Sex and the City to the Cosby Show. Her character so embodied the public school “Archie Bunker” mentality. Of course the girls that play the friends, (Zoe Lister Jones as Rochel and Francis Benhamou as Nasira) are simply fantastic! They seem so real in the parts… and the scene where Nasira’s dad is giving his blessing… wow…

Plus, there was no “nastiness” in the movie. Nothing that was over-the-top just to make it “shocking” or “real” or something stupid. It was just a nice little film about friendship, cultural differences, and prejudice.

If you’ve seen the film and liked it, or didn’t like it even, post a comment and let us know!

Trajan Font

Our cousin Matt Scott told us about this video… it’s funny because it’s true. Yet another font (hello Papyrus) that is way over used in our society.

Rubeus Hagrid

Rubeus Hagrid - Keeper of the Keys at Hogwarts

Celeste’s mom and dad got us a digital camera for Christmas this year. Granny Rose got me a Hagrid action figure and I used the camera we got to take this picture. I thought it was really good, so I thought I’d share it.

One cool thing about the camera is you can focus on one thing, then move it so that whatever it was focused on stays in focus but the other objects are out of focus. I know, most all cameras probably do that now, but you have to keep in mind we’ve not had a camera of any sort for a long, long time.

Similarities between Harry Potter & Star Wars

vadermort.jpg

Here are 10 ways Luke Skywalker is like Harry Potter.

10. Orphaned by a Dark Lord Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter both grew up wistfully curious about the parents they never knew.

9. As children, both Harry Potter and Luke Skywalker lived under the hidden protection of an aunt and uncle, longing for a better life.

8. The main villains of the Star Wars and Harry Potter universes often change their names, personalities and even appearances upon turning to the dark side.

7. The Emperor and Voldemort were both obsessed with immortality, eventually returning from death to continue their quest for eternal life and unlimited power.

6. Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter both had a male friend and female friend who initially annoyed each other and bickered often, but ultimately fell in love and got married after hiding their true feelings for years.

5. Being associated with either Luke Skywalker or Harry Potter can be hazardous — both had teachers who were murdered, both had friends who were frozen by the enemy and both had family members who were caught in the crossfire.

4. Harry Potter and Luke Skywalker, like their fathers before them, were both gifted pilots who displayed special talents long before they knew of their hidden abilities.

3. Both Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter suffered a string of physical injuries that left them permanently scarred.

2. Star Wars and Harry Potter both featured a wide variety of height-challenged characters and species — and Warwick Davis portrayed many of them.

1. Harry Potter and Luke Skywalker both received mystical heirlooms left behind by their late fathers, presented to them by elderly mentors.

(I didn’t think of these by the way, but I did make that graphic of Vader & Voldemort. You can read the whole thing on StarWars.com)
