Tarantula

Yesterday morning on the way into town we saw a beautiful “pink-toed” tarantula crawling across the road in front of our house.  We didn’t have time to stop and see him, but we slowed down and had a good look from the car.

Well, when we got home yesterday night the power was out at the house (lighting) and so I had to get out of the car to crank the gate open.  Low and behold who should come walking out of the scrub brush by the gate but the very same tarantula!  This time I did pick him up and put him in a box we had in the car.

I kept him for a few hours, then let him go.  I didn’t want to have to catch food for him and everything… and I’m sure I’ll see him around.

So… here are a couple of videos of me with him.  DO NOT watch these if you’re squeamish with “spiders” at all!

In part 1 I say, “tarantulas are the opposite of spiders…” What I meant to say is they’re the opposite of snakes. You’ll understand why when you watch the video. In the 2nd video I call him a “pinky” tarantula… I thought, and meant, that he was a “pink-toed” tarantula… but actually I believe he was a “desert blonde tarantula” instead.

  1. I was cracking up how you said spiders, then snakes, then spiders again in the first one. It’s like when I say what time it is sometimes and totally say the wrong hour without noticing it… “It’s 4:30″ when it’s actually 8:30 or whatever.
