No CLUE!
Okay… the movie companies really have no clue. Apparently they’re thinking of remaking CLUE, the 1985 movie based on the popular Hasbro board game. This is, in my opinion, a mistake!
Why try to improve on perfection? It’s not as if you’re remaking something that you could do better with CGI or other effects. It’s not as if the people that are in the original CLUE are forgotten actors of a bygone era that causes the film to need to be remade. It’s also not like there are any actors who are popular “now” that could do ANY better than the original cast!
My fear is they will ruin it by casting people like “Ashton Kutcher” and making it full of really bad sexual innuendos and retarded teenage humor. I mean this is a CLASSIC!
I am a CLUE fanatic. I own just about every version of the board game and have, long ago, made large format laminated CLUE cards that we play with using dry erase markers. I love CLUE… and I love the movie! We literally watched it just last weekend with friends. I don’t see how they could make it better in any way… doesn’t matter if Gore Verbinski is directing or not.
Of course I hope I’m wrong. And, I will admit, there are a few things they MIGHT could do that would make it worth “redoing.”
First off… don’t REDO it. Make it 100% different. Get people like Anthony Hopkins, Brent Spiner, Timothy Hutton, Christopher Walken, and John Malkovich to star in it. Make it serious! Make it like a British murder mystery… make it like Gosford Park!!! THAT would be worth seeing!!
Another option — if they MUST remake it — is to get the “Christopher Guest” crew on the project. I actually think they might could make it funnier. They, at least, KNOW what is funny… unlike 99% of the film industry.
So… please. Get a clue, or don’t make CLUE.

AMEN brother! I actually blogged about this earlier today and didn’t elaborate… I’m glad you did… I am in 100% agreement with you on this.

I’m with ya. I’ve loved the movie Clue since I first saw it as a kid and have long been able to quote at length from it. And seriously, I don’t know what actors today would WANT to redo it–surely they see the futileness of the project. Course, then again, I’m talking about ACTORS….
They’re not going to totally remake it I think. I mean, one of the reasons Clue is a board game worth making is that it’s a murder mystery. Murder mysteries are cool. Make believe lands of candy canes and gumdrops is a waste of my time, but a “Whodunnit” is always fun. If they totally remake it, it’ll just be another murder mystery and not really “Clue,” but, hey, I’ve been proven wrong before. You know what….just don’t make it!
Well said, Noel. I think this movie is a touchstone for our generation. I remember my Dad taking me and my older sister to see Clue and Mom and little sister saw 101 Dalmatians the same afternoon. It was one of the videos in the store in a small town that was always acceptable to rent. It can not be outdone.
