Ferengi Costume

In 2005 I made a Ferengi mask and costume. I have since sold both.
For the jacket I bought a woman’s jacket from Kohl’s that I then altered by cutting and embellishing. I then sculpted the mask and bought some “Orc” teeth from an online dealer. The pants were women’s stretch pants. The shirt I made from some stretch fabric I bought with a Ferengi-like pattern. The boots were fisherman wading boots from Bass Pro Shops.
All in all it turned out quite well and I will probably make another one for myself one day.
Note: the photos below are of my first mask which I deemed “too orange” after wearing it once or twice. The mask above in the featured image is my 2nd one which I colored more correctly.

Hi there
I have just came across your blog, and thought I’d say Wow!! you made a great costume.
Would you be able to tell me what is required to make this. As I would love to make my own.
Hey Shaun,
Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you like the costume.
Basically this is how I made it… First off, I went to KOHL’s and bought the most outlandish women’s jacket (that fit me) I could find. I then cut it so it was short in the front and long in the back… added some ribbon and other embellishments and that was it! Jacket done!
My shirt is made from a spandex material with a horrid print on it.
Again, the gaudier the better!
It has no sleeves, and literally is one piece sewn to the other with a hole for the neck and arms.
I then added little pieces of plastic gold squares that I got from a cheap bracelet at Target.
The pants are simply women’s stretch pants that I got like 4 sizes too big for me. (women’s clothing = Ferengi)
I just wear them really high…
The kicker (for me) was the boots.
I found some “fly fishing” wading boots at Bass Pro Shops (an outdoor store in Springfield, MO).
They matched my pants EXACTLY and they have that “alien shoe” look to them.
They had a logo on the side, but it was only painted on and came off with an exacto knife and a bit of time.
How are you doing your mask / makeup?
Have you seen my Ferengi site?

There are t-shirt decals and cool widgets for your iPhone and Mac on there. :)
Also all 285 Rules of Acquisition (completed by moi)
I also have a stormtrooper site now.

Let me know if I can be of anymore help… and send pictures when you get some!
Your costume is brilliant!! I’m am rather a newly fledged trekkie (having only watched all of TNG and 3 seasons of DS9 once) but am committed to it whole heartedly. I’m doing research on ferengi costumes because I have this bizarre dream of making purses for each alien race. Right now I am working on plans for a cardassian one and just have to get my materials together. But I think ferengi will be coming next, as it is so flamboyant and would be a lot of fun.
Thanks so much for sharing and I’ll definatly be checking out more on you ferengi page.:)
Did you make the prosthetic yourself? I just purchased one from amazon for around $40us. But I’m wearing a Starfleet sciences uniform. The rest of your outfit looks fantastic, awesome job!
Hey Brad, yes… I made it myself. I’ve since sold it. But will, hopefully, make another one (silicone?) one day “soon.”
